“The Logical Choice is a great piece of work. Well done!” ~~ Ed Watts, May 14, 2013.
“I consider it one of the most interesting handicapping approaches I’ve ever tried...” ~~ James R. Winter, July 15, 2013.
In 2010, the favorite won 36.7% of all races run in North America at average odds of 6/5. So, if you had wagered on every favorite that ran that year you would have lost $385.20 per 1,000 races. There is a better way, and this is it.

If you know what this book is and is not, it can be useful. Although it starts with an extended critique of traditional speed handicapping (and Beyer figures in particular), this is irrelevant to the essential presentation of the book. Perhaps it was just put in there to fill out the length into a seemingly full length book. But the rest of it provides a very reasonable basis for making bets solely on the basis of tote board action, the morning line, and an initial identification of the favorites (which you can do yourself, or appropriate from someone else). It has merit, although I have not tried it at length yet so I cannot report success. Be aware that this book (a) will not tell you how to evaluate past performances, (b) will provide a system that gives you quality plays in a minority of races, and (c) is not entirely mechanical - you will still need to use some judgment. I think it is a good supplement to traditional analysis of thoroughbreds.Product details

The Logical Choice Tote Board Handicapping Made Easy eBook G W Cohail Reviews
The book is clear, well written, and easy to read. The author has a lot to ssy about the usual approaches to handicapping. It makes for lively reading.
Not a good book, and not good results from using it, worse than just using the ML picks and going from there.
This is a great book with concepts I plan to incorporate into my arsenal immediately. I believe G.W. CoHail is exactly what he says he is, a true professional and the methodology he uses is one that if really followed would be successful for anyone. In my opinion, this is a book that is probably more tailored to someone wanting to do this more seriously and who is not the weekend player mostly interested in cashing multiple tickets and drinking a few cold beers in the sunshine. I have been one of those players for years and enjoyed every minute of it, but am now ready to get more serious about this and I believe the concepts in this book are going to set me on the right track to make some real money.
Good luck to you all!
I wish the author had really revised the whole book, because it was hard to keep from being a bit confused by some of the examples. I probably reread the book three or four times trying to get a grip on his final methods. But I love most of his lessons from his fifty years experience and they seem to hold up pretty good. He would be great to ask a few questions of regarding some of his points. I consider it one of the most interesting handicapping approaches I've ever tried, and even though I decided at one point in my paper trials that it wasn't going to work out, it did. Hope to have future luck with it.
This is the best book I've read on handicapping so far. The author is all about the serious horseplayer making money. How you say? Well the most important thing I got from this book was to look for the value and action bet. The first day I read this book and bet. I won period. It's all about betting with your head. Don't get me wrong, I still make stupid impatient bets but this book has helped me spot the bets that get me the best value for my money. Thank you for this great work. I have learned to eliminate horses with no chance and get down to the contenders. Now I am confident in betting any race, no matter the horse race.
The concept of skipping the handicapping and selecting the best value (overlay) from the top four or five on the morning line has some merit. In actual practice I found that the huge change that occurs on the tote board as late money comes in often cut the value in half I thought I had found and bet on.
The two tote systems presented could have been written in 50 words or less each. The author spends the first half of the book stating obvious handicapping principles, then presents two well-worn and often-used tote-pattern systems, then spends the latter half of the book in a series of short workouts. Both systems are known money burners that have been presented countless times in systems and books on tote-watching. If you insist on buying the book anyway, be sure to test the systems on paper for a while before risking your money --- and hope that the systems don't strike it lucky when you do.
Be aware that this book (a) will not tell you how to evaluate past performances, (b) will provide a system that gives you quality plays in a minority of races, and (c) is not entirely mechanical - you will still need to use some judgment. I think it is a good supplement to traditional analysis of thoroughbreds.
